About David

I have spent more than thirty years teaching mathematics to middle and high school students. Throughout my career I have worked with students of widely varying abilities and learning styles. One consistent lesson I have learned is that success in math is not determined only by ability. Students thrive when they develop confidence, effective study habits, and a clear understanding of mathematical concepts. Academic coaching allows me to work closely with students to help them develop these skills.

Experience

• 30+ years teaching middle and high school mathematics (CA Credential)

• extensive experience supporting struggling learners

AVID trained teacher

• experience working with homeschool students and families

• former baseball coach with experience mentoring student-athletes

• instructional designer for the GeoGebra US Math Content Project, developing interactive mathematics tools used by students and teachers.

My approach combines strong subject knowledge with practical strategies that help students become more independent learners.

Coaching Philosophy

My goal is not simply to help students complete assignments. Instead, I work to help students:

• understand mathematical concepts deeply

• use visual representations and build on student intuition

• develop effective learning habits

• take ownership of their academic progress

When students build these skills, they are better prepared for future academic challenges.

Personal Note

Outside of teaching and coaching, I enjoy spending my time with my beautiful wife and five sons. My wife and I have homeschooled our own boys for the past 16 years and understand the value of individualized support. I’ve worked for GeoGebra as an instructional designer. I’m a curious person and believe that learning to do difficult things is an essential part of one reaching their full potential. From 2009-2017, I authored the blog Questions? that detailed my approach to education.
